Installing Magento

Magento is a powerful and feature-rich open source eCommerce platform.

Installation of Magento is, for the most part, fairly straightforward, following the Magento Installation Guide.  However, the permissions should not be 777 (world writable).  They should be 755 (writable only by user).  Setting the files to world writable will result in a server error when you try to complete the installation.

If you attempt to install Magento, but get a server error, please open a ticket with the domain name and directory of the Magento install, and we will correct the permissions for you.

At this time, there is no Fantastico installer for Magento.  Once a Fantastico installer becomes available, these instructions will be updated.
